Lunch-debate(F/N) on "The increasing economic inequality in our welfare state" at the occasion of the publication of the book "Le Capital au XXIe siècle" by Thomas Piketty. Debat presided by Prof. Eric De Keuleneer. Introduction by Prof. François Maniquet (Core, U.C.Louvain, Francqui Prize 2010), Comments by Prof. Koen Schoors (Faculty of Economic Sciences, Ghent University) and by Prof. Alain de Crombrugghe (UNamur), followed by a general discussion.  Tuesday January 27, 2015 at 12.30 pm.

Lunch debate on "The need for a new energy policy" (N/F) by Prof. dr.  Jaap de Zwaan (Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam) and Prof. Eric De Keuleneer (ULB), February 13, 2015, 12.30 pm.

Lecture on "The future of European Cancer Clinical Research: challenges and opportunities" by Prof. Françoise MEUNIER, Director General EORTC (European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer). The lecture will be introduced by  Prof. Augustin Ferrant, Secrétaire perpétuel de l’ Académie Royale de Médecine de Belgique. This activity is preceeded by a cocktail reception at the University Foundation. Tuesday February 24, 2015 at 7 pm.

New Year's reception, with an address by Prof. Emile Boulpaep (President BAEF) on "Belgian-American benevolence during and after the Great War",  at the occasion of the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Great War 1914-18.  Thursday January 29, 2015 at 5.30 pm.

Guided visit to the exhibition "Le Monde du Sultan. L’Orient Ottoman dans l’art de la Renaissance" at Bozar, followed by a dinner at the University Foundation. Thursday March 12, 2015 at 6 pm.

Concert by the "Queen Elisabeth Chapel"Thursday 26 March 2015 at 8 pm. 

Guided visit to the exhibition "Portraits de la Renaissance aux Pays-Bas" at Bozar followed by a dinner at the University Foundatione. Thursday April 24, 2015 at 6 pm.

Guided visit to the exhibition "Marc Chagall" in the Royal Museums of Fine Arts, preceeded by a lunch at the University Foundation. Thursday  May 7, 2015 at 3 pm.

The University Foundation organises, in collaboration with "la Fondation pour l’environnement urbain Pierre Laconte", a cycle of lunch debates on the theme «A World of Cities» for the members of the Foundation and also for a larger public (faculties, economic, social and cultural organisations, ...)

The cycle consists of three activities:

Friday 24 April 2015 at 12.30 pm : Lunch debate on «The university and the city: the case of Brussels»

Monday 11 May 2015  at 12.30 pm : Lunch debate on «The city of tomorrow: reflections and proposals»

The fee for the lunch is 33 € for the members of the University Foundation and 38 € for non-members. 

In an offical ceremony at the University Foundation on Tuesday December 16, 2014,  the biannual Fernand Collin Prize for Law was awarded to dr. Tom Decaigny for his Ph. D. thesis “Tegenspraak in het vooronderzoek. Een onderzoek naar de meerwaarde van een vroege participatie van de verdachte in de Belgische strafprocedure”, Intersentia, 2013, 719 p. He obtained the Ph. D. degree at VUB in 2013 with this work under the supervision of Professor Paul De Hert.  

The composition of the jury was as follows: H. Bocken (chairman), K. Byttebier, H. Cousy, A. De Nauw, P. Popelier, H. Swennen, M. Van Damme, W. Van Eeckhoutte, W. Van Gerven, I. Verougstraete,  J. Wouters and A. Wylleman. 

Like in recent years we are able, thanks to our good relations with the organisation, to offer our Club members good places fior the Queen Elisabeth Competition 2015 (Violin)

The 13th Ethical Forum took place in the University Foundation on November 20,  2014, and dealt with the question "Will the universities survive the e-learning revolution? And how?". The ecvent was very successful, with very good presentations and a lively discussion.

Professor Louis Baeck, honorary Executive Director of the University Foundation, passed away on November 29, 2014, at the age of 86, in his home in Heverlee.

Louis Baeck was professor of world and development economics at KU Leuven and was the author of a large number of books and scientific papers in his field.

From 1982 to 2001 he was the Executive Director of the University Foundation. During his tenure he realized an extensive renovation of the infrastructure (meeting rooms and hotel facilities) of the University Foundation, with respect for the historic tradition and the style of the house. He loved the Foundation very much and was proud to have been able to contribute to its restructuration to prepare the Foundation for the challenges of the 21st century.

The University Foundation has taken an option on a number of seats for its members for three operas at La Monnaie:
